The 2021 Golf in the Wild Seniors Open at Allendale Golf Club is scheduled for Thursday 16th September. The competition is an individual stableford, open to gents and ladies aged 55 and over. It will be played off the white tees such that gents can experience the par-5 6th. Tee times can be booked online through BRS – click here.
Catering will be available from 08:30 – bacon rolls in the morning and light snacks throughout the day. Subject to the number of entries, prize money will be a minimum of £100 for first place, £50 second and £25 third. There will also be a £30 prize and additional trophy for the best gross. This splendid trophy has been kindly donated by Tony Brown from Scarborough North – named the Spartylea Trophy, it reflects his affection for the area and golf in the wild at Allendale.
I had hoped to have the sequel, Golf in the Wild – Going Home, available to coincide with the event however, publication is now scheduled for end October. The new book will be priced at £11.99 and but can be pre-ordered on the day at £10 – they will be signed and posted out f.o.c immediately following publication, together with any requested dedication.
Here’s hoping for the same excellent weather we had in 2020!

This year’s Junior Golf Tour which was played at six different venues around Northumberland, including Allendale, during the spring and summer has now reached its conclusion.
Four of Allendale’s junior members participated and although none of them won their categories, which would have got them into the Northumberland team, they were all well placed in the final Order of Merit:
– Daniel playing in the white tees category finished in third place
– In the blue tees category for 13 years and over Tom Bloomer was sixth out of 13 players
– And in the 12 years and under, blue tees category, James was fourth and Luke fifth out of 16 participants
The tour once again proved to be a wonderful golfing experience for those who participated, playing on a variety of golf courses with a range of different people. Our juniors members played consistently well throughout the series.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to our 3.5-1.5 victory over Tynedale on Thursday. The sun eventually came out in recognition that overall, we have now won 4 out of 5 matches so far this season!
The next match is Thursday 8th August at home to Prudhoe. It is teams of ten again and we have a full squad – I will email the start sheet shortly. We even have the luxury of a reserve (Derek).
After the Tynedale home match, the scores on the doors are:
Dennis Cousins: 9 pts
Peter Robinson: 7 pts
Cliff Dalton: 7 pts
Derek Todhunter: 7 pts
Jim Hall: 6 pts
Mike Metcalfe: 4 pts

Ian Crocker: 3 pts
Mark Kimberley: 3 pts
Robin Down: 3 pts
Geoff Edwards: 2 pts

Thanks to Neil and Ian, the course looked great and Christine’s catering was excellent as usual.
