Allendale 72-Hole Challenge: Golfing for a Lifesaving Cause

The Allendale Golf Club community came together in spectacular fashion on 17th June as four dedicated members took on an epic golfing challenge to raise funds for a vital cause. Neil Forsyth, John Martin, Mark Elliott, and Steven Newman set themselves the ambitious task of completing 72 holes in a single day – all in the name of fundraising for a much-needed defibrillator at the club.

A Marathon of Golf and Grit

Teeing off at an eye-watering 5:30 am, the foursome faced a gruelling day ahead, aiming to conquer our hilly 9-hole course a staggering eight times before wrapping up shortly after 6:30pm. With each round covering around 5 miles, their final tally saw them clocking up over 20 miles of walking – not to mention hundreds of swings and putts along the way.

To add an extra layer of excitement, the team pledged to donate 5p for every Stableford point they scored collectively. By the end of the marathon session, they had amassed an impressive 535 points, adding an additional £107 to their fundraising total.

Smashing the Target

Thanks to the overwhelming support of the Allendale Golf Club community and beyond, the team exceeded their original fundraising goal of £600, reaching a fantastic total of £788.50 from many generous backers. This achievement speaks volumes about the camaraderie and goodwill that exists within our club – proving once again that Allendale is about more than just golf.

A Lifesaving Initiative

The funds raised will go towards purchasing a defibrillator for the club – an essential piece of equipment that could one day save a life. Given our rural location, immediate access to emergency care is not always guaranteed, making this device an invaluable addition to the clubhouse. While the team’s efforts have raised a significant amount, the full cost of purchasing and installing a defibrillator was made up by other generous contributions, including the Kingswood Open held a month later.

Update – We are pleased to announce that the defibrillator is now fully installed and located on the wall just behind the group photo below at the main entrance to the clubhouse.
